Getting Better all the Time

My wife and I regularly head out on the local trails near our house. She prefers to walk while I prefer to run. As a numbers guy, I always start my stopwatch before I begin and push to beat my personal best time. At the end, we meet up back at the trailhead and my wife often just shakes her head at me as I am doubled over, dripping with sweat, and gasping for air. She says I don't need to kill myself to shave a couple seconds off my time, a comment I've grown used to hearing. I can't help it though, what's the point of doing it if I'm not improving?

I am guided by continuous improvement. I believe everyone has the capacity for improvement, and for me, a life well-lived includes personal growth and life-long learning. With that said, I am excited to announce my recent completion of requirements earning the CFP® (Certified Financial Planner™) certification. To earn this certification, I met qualifications in four areas: education, exam, experience, and ethics.

  • Education: The completion of additional university-level coursework through a CFP® Board Registered Program.
  • Exam: A passing mark on the CFP® exam which tests the ability to apply financial planning knowledge to real-life situations.
  • Experience: Completion of 6,000 hours of professional experience related to the financial planning process, mostly through my work with you, my clients!
  • Ethics: Renewal of my long-standing commitment to act as a fiduciary on your behalf. In simple terms. I am required to always act in the best interests of my clients.
I am proud of and happy about my new qualification and I want to communicate to you how seriously I take my role in advising you on your investments and financial goals. I believe that commitment requires me to read and research market and economic events daily. I also believe I should continuously improve and expand my expertise. You, my clients, are my top priority and I will continue to pursue improvement that will help me be a better advisor to you.

I hope this correspondence finds you healthy and well. If you have found yourself in pursuit of self-improvement during this challenging and confusing time, I salute your efforts. And likewise, if you are taking a softer stance on the immediate completion of your personal to-do list, I respect and honor the assessment of your appropriate use of time. Regardless of your tactic, fulfillment can be found in continuous learning and I look forward to using my new knowledge to better serve you. In the meantime, if any of you have any tips on improving my trail-running time, I'm all ears.

View Disclosure
WT Wealth Management is an SEC registered investment adviser, with in excess of $100 million in assets under management (AUM) with offices in Flagstaff, Scottsdale, Sedona and Tucson, AZ along with Jackson Hole, WY and Las Vegas, NV. WT Wealth Management is a manager of Separately Managed Accounts (SMAs). With SMAs, performance can vary widely from investor to investor as each portfolio is individually constructed and managed. Asset allocation weightings are determined based on a wide array of economic and market conditions the day the funds are invested. In an SMA, each investor may own individual Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), individual equities or mutual funds. As the manager we have the freedom and flexibility to tailor the portfolio to address an individual investor's personal risk tolerance and investment objectives – thus making the account “separate” and distinct from all others we manage. An investment with WT Wealth Management is not insured or guaranteed by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) or any other government agency. Always seek out the advice of a qualified investment professional before deciding to invest. Investing in stocks, bonds, mutual funds and ETFs carries certain specific risks and part or all of an account's value can be lost. In addition to the normal risks associated with investing, narrowly focused investments, investments in smaller companies, sector and/or thematic ETFs and investments in single countries typically exhibit higher volatility. International, Emerging Market and Frontier Market ETFs, mutual funds and individual securities may involve risk of capital loss from unfavorable fluctuations in currency values, from differences in generally accepted accounting principles or from economic or political instability that other nations experience. Individual bonds, bond mutual funds and bond ETFs will typically decrease in value as interest rates rise. A portion of a municipal bond fund's income may be subject to federal or state income taxes or the alternative minimum tax. Capital gains (short and long-term), if any, are subject to capital gains tax. Diversification and asset allocation may not protect against market risk or investment losses. At WT Wealth Management, we strongly suggest having a personal financial plan in place before making any investment decisions including understanding personal risk tolerance, having clearly outlined investment objectives and a clearly defined investment time horizon.
